As you’ve come to expect, we’re pumping out another sick free download for you, this time “White North” from Chico, California band Cold Blue Mountain. The group is a five-piece that combines equal parts sludge, anthemic post-metal, beards, cheap beer and bad jokes for a crushing, pretense-free sound. The group initially formed as a three-piece before adding two additional members that have helped define their powerful sound. The band has only been together for a couple of years and already in that time they have recorded their self-titled debut earlier this year.
The nine-track debut from Cold Blue Mountain was recorded at Origami Lounge studios in Chico before being sent over for mixing by Chris Keene and mastering at The Boiler Room in Chicago by Collin Jordan. The self-titled record touches on the band’s broad range of influences and the band members’ past and current musical projects. There are big riffs here such as on the up-tempo “Branch Davidian Compound” to the dirge-like “Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.” Cold Blue Mountain are currently using the momentum from their first record and putting it towards the recording of their sophomore LP, due out sooner than later.
