King Giant – “Dismal Hollow”

So far, 2012 has been an extremely good year for metal. Need proof? Well Cattle Decapitation, Six Feet Under, Ancient VVisdom, Eternal Helcaraxe, Royal Thunder and Antigama have each released some stellar discs. Now we can also add King Giant’s Dismal Hollow to that same list!

King Giant play an interesting style of music in that it’s doomy and not too dissimilar to bands like 40 Watt Sun and The Obsessed. In fact, with vocalist Todd emulating Wino at times, a lot of the songs on this album actually remind me of the classic Obsessed album The Church Within. The difference between King Giant and Obsessed however, is the fact that King Giant also drop a little bit of Southern flair into their music. The end result is an album that will not just impress doom fans, but should capture the attention of anyone who’s into metal. Period.
