Barry Tubb – “Clown Hunt” [DVD Review]

Just when I thought I’d seen it all, I received a DVD copy of the independent comedic horror/suspense movie, Clown Hunt. As the name suggests, it’s a movie about a world in which clowns are hunted for sport and food; much like many hunt deer, bear and other forest animals. And as with the real world, over-hunting has decimated the population of huntable clowns and their numbers have gotten frighteningly low. It’s interesting to see clowns, in full clown regalia running in the Savannah alongside wild horses and giraffes. I am a clown hunting novice for sure – I didn’t even know that there were two clown seasons; happy clown season and sad clown season, and the repercussions for hunting out of season clowns can be harsh.

Here’s the setup. A group of friends gather for their annual clown hunt, but this year something is very different; a rare wild albino clown named Albino Willie is pissed off and out for revenge and the hunters are in for the shocks of their lives. I won’t spoil it for you, but Albino Willie has a unique and interesting way of extracting his revenge on the hunters. This is one of the most interesting independent movies that I’ve received for review and without a doubt, the most original plot. The picture quality is excellent (a rarity in this genre) and I think overall this movie is more than watchable. Obviously it’s not a mainstream Hollywood movie, but taken for what it is; it’s pretty decent. I definitely had more than a few chuckles.
