Restorations – “Title Track” [Free Song Download]
Restorations occupies a truly rarefied air that exists somewhere between indie rock’s off-kilter jangle, the explosive, dynamic nature of punk and hardcore, shoegaze’s contemplative restraint and the breeziness of a front porch romp through rustic Americana. Bands like The Constantines and Red Collar explore similar territory, but much like Jena Berlin – Dave Klyman and Jon Loudon’s highly acclaimed previous outfit – there’s a taut, almost electrified undercurrent that keeps Strange Behavior tense and ominous… and maybe even a little dangerous-sounding.
The Skinny: Restorations occupies a truly rarefied air that exists somewhere between indie rock’s off-kilter jangle, the explosive, dynamic nature of punk and hardcore, shoegaze’s contemplative restraint and the breeziness of a front porch romp through rustic Americana.
On the other hand, the Philadelphia quintet still manages to exude warmth and earnestness throughout the duration of its debut EP. Propelled largely by Loudon’s gravely soulful vocals, these four songs envelope the listener in the front man’s melodic growl and the band’s pulsing, fuzzy indie stylings. Strange Behavior is a record that will cause to lose yourself in its atmospheric peaks and valleys while keeping you on high alert with songs that burn slowly before careening down unexpected – yet-always exciting – avenues.
Strange Behavior was recorded by Algernon Cadwallader’s Joe Reinhart and mixed by Kyle Pulley at the Headroom in Philadelphia, PA and was mastered by Ryan Shwabe at ONEdependent Mastering. The EP was released digitally by the Paper + Plastick on May 4th via iTunes and other digital retailers, and was pressed on 12-inch vinyl by the Gainesville label in late 2010.
