Miss May I – “Answers” [Song Review]
One of the newest and fast-rising bands in the metal scene, is Miss May I, an incredibly talented group from Troy, Ohio. In 2008, they signed to Rise Records, and in 2009 their first full length album, Apologies Are For The Weak, was released. The record was a huge hit, even landing a track, “Forgive and Forget,” on the ‘Saw VI’ soundtrack. Ever since, Miss May I has made promising success, touring with bands such as Carnifex, The Devil Wears Prada and more.

In August of 2010, Miss May I released their second album, Monument. Though compelled to review every damn song on this release, one of the best tunes would be “Answers.” Beginning with a dark crescendo, which arises into the angry, yet beautiful screams of Levi Benton, a 19 year old chock full of energy and talent, the song manages to create tension; a sense of panic which the guitar never fails to convey.
Ironically, and most likely intentionally, every sentence in the song is a question. Though the lyrics contain anger and frustration, questioning oneself is the song’s main point. Don’t just live the life around you, question the life around you!
The song as a whole grabs you in with its well played, melodic beats and darkness, and pulls you in even closer towards the end, involving you in the madness that is the meaning of the song. I highly recommend giving this a listen if you haven’t already. [ END ]
