Fleshwrought – “Dimentia/Dyslexia”
Naven Kopperweiss and Jonny Davy are two of the most highly acclaimed musicians in the technical death metal genre. Davy, vocalist for the band Job For A Cowboy and Kopperweiss the drummer of Animosity and Animals As Leaders, have pooled their talents and teamed together to create a hectic and chaotic foray into madness titled Dimentia/Dyslexia.

As one would expect from musicians of this ilk, the performances are quite astonishing. That being said though the songs are brash, brutal and a bit too over the top for me. I am completely aware that this is sort of experimental, technical death metal project of sorts. Furthermore I am aware that the disc is supposed to represent a literal foray into mental illness, hence the title Dementia/Dyslexia. For me though, these songs and the disc in general are oftentimes just too much to take.
The percussive nature of this whole disc is, to me, incredibly hard to bear. After a once through of Dementia/Dyslexia I thought I might even go nuts (so maybe the goal was achieved after all). Honestly this is not my cup of tea. I’m all for heavy, extreme stuff but the experimental aspect of this disc rendered it to me, unmusical.
This all said, I imagine many fans of either of these two bands or the super extreme forms of metal will dig this. Alas I did not. While I can appreciate the sheer talent of the musicians involved in Dementia/Dyslexia it just did nothing for me. Maybe it’ll sit better with you. [ END ]
