Ted Nugent

Love Grenade (09.04.2007)

Love Grenade is the newest release from the Motor City Madman, Ted Nugent. After five decades in the music business he is still cranking out some very good, very entertaining music. Described in the liner notes as “Full Bluntal Nuggity,” Love Grenade has all the elements that you would expect from Ted Nugent and then some. Killer guitar riffs and licks abound, as does the tongue in cheek humor and biting sarcasm Ted has been known for since the early days. This is evident in song titles such as “Bridge Over Troubled Daughters,” “Girl Scout Cookies” and “Funk U” all three of which are classic Nugent with lots of word play and double entendres.

As can also be expected, a Nugent album is not complete without some commentary on the political situation in America and Love Grenade is no exception. On the song “Stand” Nugent sings “Don’t need big brother to wipe my ass/Don’t need Ted Kennedy to spill my glass/Al not so Sharpton is a fuckin’ laugh/The whole damn world can kiss my ass.” The song continues further down with a verse about another issue that Ted is even more passionate about, gun control. “Don’t need no hippies to take my gun/don’t need no commies, no Mao Tse Tung/Rugged independence is a lotta fun/I laugh so hard when I see em run.”

There are no real surprises here, just some kicking blues influenced rock and roll infused with a healthy dose of wit and sarcasm. You gotta give it up for Ted, he has stuck to his guns (pun intended) throughout the years and Love Grenade is no exception. Nothing surprising here, just a damn good record!  [ END ]
