The Cursed

Room Full Of Sinners (2007)

The Cursed is, supposedly, a band of former all-star metalheads, featuring singer Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth (Overkill) and guitarist Dan Lorenzo (Hades). If you haven’t heard of these bands, they actually put out some pretty sick music in the 1980s. One would think that the powerful past of these members would launch The Cursed into stardom, yet Room Full Of Sinners doesn’t quiet get them there.

I’m going to try to put this as lightly as I possibly can, though it might hurt for Blitz fans: Blitz does not have the proper voice for this band. The Cursed is supposed to be metal, but Blitz’s voice isn’t rough, nor is it intense, nor is it even loud; he is lacking some of the best qualities of the true metal gods. I did not enjoy his part on this album whatsoever.

On a much happier note, Lorenzo really brought it on this album. His guitar riffs are exactly what I was expecting and hoping to hear: perfect distortion level and clean playing.

Lorenzo isn’t the only one who brought the pain with this album. The surprising shining star would—without a doubt—have to be Mike Cristi on the drums. Cristi reminds me of a young Bill Ward (Black Sabbath)—though, he still has room for improvement.

All in all, the album had its bright spots and its dim spots. I still enjoyed the album and I see possible greatness in the future for The Cursed.  [ END ]
