Los Campesinos – “Sticking Fingers Into Sockets” [EP] [Album Review]
Throughout this five-song EP, with a 30-second sing-a-long at the end, is a series of short, jumpy pop songs that are so hooktastic they are extremely hard not to like.
The newest signees to the prestigious Arts & Crafts label sure do have a lot to live up to. The most prominent aspect being that they aren’t Canadian, but British, and none of their members are a part of Broken Social Scene.
However, any sort of speculation ends as the first note of “We Throw Parties, You Throw Knives” hits your ears. I tripple-dog dare you not to move to this song, since its dancibility is as baffling as its title.
Throughout this five-song EP, with a 30-second sing-a-long at the end, is a series of short, jumpy pop songs that are so hooktastic they are extremely hard not to like. The singing is quick and made me wish I knew the lyrics so I could keep up and sing along.
I laughed hysterically at the tongue-in-cheekiness of “It Started With a Mixx,” which makes fun of those bands who take too long to release an album and take themselves too seriously. Pretty brave for such a new band, but again, they are so likeable they can get away with it.
This EP is for anyone who likes to dance to simple pop songs on a warm summer’s day and just sit and think about how amazing the full-length album is going to be.
