Record Store Day is upon us. As a reminder, Warner Bros Records, the leading participant and partner of RSD, has yet another stellar menu of platters available for the November 25th, Black Friday event. These largely exclusive and limited editions will go on sale the day after Thanksgiving at over 700 independently owned record stores across the country.

“Monarchy of Roses” is the lead-off track from the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ brand new album, I’m With You, and it’s also now the second single. The first single “The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie” was yet another number one single for the Peppers so selecting a second single was probably not a very easy task (when you’re trying to follow it up with something equally as good).

It may not seem like it, but it’s now over five years since the Red Hot Chili Peppers released their last album, Stadium Arcadium. Indeed, time flies when you’re having fun and it would be hard to suggest that the lack of new material from the Chilis has been sorely missed. Stadium Arcadium was just too much at the time. There were plenty of quality songs, especially the enthralling “Dani California”, but there was over two hours of material to dissect the brilliance from the mediocrity.

It’s a shame but the Red Hot Chili Peppers now seem to take five years between every album. It would be great to see such a talented band release music on a more frequent basis, but I guess when you’ve been together for nearly thirty years and have had countless mega-hits you can really do whatever you want. That said, the Peppers are back with I’m With You, the group’s tenth studio record and first with brand new guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, replacing the again departed John Frusciante.
