Red Hot Chili Peppers – “The Adventures of Raindance Maggie” [Song Review]

It’s a shame but the Red Hot Chili Peppers now seem to take five years between every album. It would be great to see such a talented band release music on a more frequent basis, but I guess when you’ve been together for nearly thirty years and have had countless mega-hits you can really do whatever you want. That said, the Peppers are back with I’m With You, the group’s tenth studio record and first with brand new guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, replacing the again departed John Frusciante.

For fans starved for new music, I’m With You’s first single “The Adventures of Raindance Maggie” has just hit the radio. Despite its silly song title (what else would you expect from RHCP?), “Raindance Maggie” is a pretty solid, ear-pleasing reintroduction to the band. The song is heavy on the funk courtesy of Flea’s classic bass riffs and the verses have a nice head bobbing beat to them with a very catchy chorus.

As could be expected Frusciante’s prowess is clearly missing but Klinghoffer offers a cool introduction to himself with some slick distorted guitar sounds. The song is a fairly impressive first single and shows that the Chili Peppers still have something left even if they’re a little past their prime and now without their top guitaring gun.

Run Time: 4:41
Release Date: July 18, 2011
