Next week, on July 19th, 2019, to be exact, Scott Stapp will release his new album The Space Between The Shadows, his first recording in six years, via Napalm Records (pre-save/preorder options can be found here). Today, further promoting the album, Stapp has unveiled a new single titled “Gone Too Soon” which pays homage to recently fallen rockers, Chris Cornell, Chester Bennington, and Prince, not to mention the fallen soldiers and victims of inconceivable violence, PTSD, and/or addiction.
“Gone Too Soon” follows the previous singles “Purpose For Pain,” “Name” and “Face of The Sun,”all of which has led to over 3 million global plays thus far. Stapp, also known as the Grammy winning songwriter and frontman for Creed (50+ million albums sold worldwide) is now five years sober and recently shared his feelings about the single with Billboard noting, “Somewhere around the time Chester passed, and we had already been reeling from Cornell’s passing, I was flipping through the news and saw the suicide rate for (U.S. military) vets was skyrocketing, and all these people are OD-ing from heroin, drug addictions, opioids. The school shootings. It was just a collection of things that all hit me at once. So it was inspired by a series of events that just came together to impact me as a human being, all at once.”
