New York is home to a new alternative rock group dubbed The Freaks! Check out the free track “Wastecats” today! The Freaks’ music is inspired by late 1990s and early 2000s rock and they deliver inspiring anthems that would appeal to the youth of today. The Freaks is led by lead singer and guitarist Alexander Bean, along with close friend and collaborator Robert Usey. Bean writes all the songs, taking strong influences from Green Day, Blink-182, and Fall Out Boy, while also taking inspiration from today’s modern pop and rock artists such as Migos, Lil Uzi Vert, xxxTentacion, and Post Malone. The Freaks are out to evolve beyond their predecessors while still maintaining the “coolness” factor of the classic pop-punkers.
Commenting on “Wastecats,” Alexander Bean stated, “I wrote that with an acoustic guitar on my porch in Atlanta. I was out there sitting one night, and I wrote the chords, the lyrics, and the melody for the song. But, I got the chorus lyrics and the chorus melody in a crazy way. I was at a friend’s house and oddly enough he had a bunch of old early 20th century poetry books. We decided that we’d go through them for some reason to try get inspired. The lyrics that are in the chorus of the song are influenced by some random poetry… So that song came about in a weird way. It was written at two different times.”
