Geared Up
Gear Review: Lionfight bassist Bryan Patrick Cole on his SansAmp Tech 21 Bass Driver DI pedal
Chicago, IL-based hard rocking quartet Lionfight headed out on the “We Are Savages Tour” this past Wednesday with Breathe Carolina to support their debut self-titled EP. This very new group, they formed as recently as April of 2013, boats a musical mix of nu metal and energy rock that sounds like a hammer hitting a brick wall… so basically it’s awesome. Check out what bassist Bryan Patrick Cole had to say about some of his key gear.

What one piece of gear do you use to obtain your signature sound?
Bryan: A thick, rusty tone from my SansAmp Tech 21 Bass Driver DI pedal.
What about it makes it so important to you?
Bryan: It completely fulfills the tone and feeling I want to set.
How was this gear used during the recording of your latest album?
Bryan: I actually didn’t use any of my live gear, other than my bass and a SansAmp Bass Driver pedal but with that said, the DI tone was incredible with that pedal.
What are the major pros and cons?
Bryan: Major pros are when my gear actually works 100%, and the cons are when it doesn’t, haha.
How long have you had it, how do you use it, would you ever change it?
Bryan: I’ve had my setup for about as long as I’ve been in lionfight so a little over a year. I have an Ampeg SVT-3 PRO head, along with an Ampeg 2×15 speaker cab. My bass is a maroon 5 string Ibanez SDGR (Soundgear) with Ernie Ball Power Slinky Custom Gauge Roundwound bass strings (135 being the lowest) and a SansAmp Tech 21 Bass Driver DI pedal. And I wouldn’t change anything, maybe just upgrade what I already have and adding a wireless system would be nice.
Any final thoughts or comments on the gear?
Bryan: I’m almost completely set on having my dream gear, but one day at a time and enough money saved will help me get there!
