The Bankes Brothers Release Their Latest EP, ‘In Waves’
Canadian indie act The Bankes Brothers has just released their brand new EP ‘In Waves’ after an extended period of focused songwriting.
The Bankes Brothers are about to light up Canada’s indie-rock scene and ignite audiences everywhere. Since their debut single, “In Waves,” in February 2023, the band has garnered acclaim and recognition across Canada and beyond. They regularly show in the Top 5 on Canadian commercial radio’s alternative charts and have seen constant support on Sirius XM’s The Verge for the past year.
Now, with the highly anticipated unveiling of their In Waves EP, alongside the final track, “Walkin’,” all eyes return to The Bankes Brothers for what promises to be another banner year for one of Canada’s rising stars in contemporary rock n’ roll, set to embark on a whirlwind tour of the UK alongside Red Rum Club.
Regarding their new single, the band states:
“We wanted to save the best for the last. ‘Walkin’ has been a songwriting saga for us since day one. It began as just a hook, and slowly turned into a melody, which then became one of our favourite songs of our EP, In Waves. ‘Walkin’ is about doing your own thing – just gut checking, you know?
“This was a real guiding force for us and the band through the past year, when in late 2022 we decided to take a different path, dive headfirst into writing and performing music. And pursue it shamelessly.”
The EP can best be described as a six-track shot of dopamine spilling over with irresistibly catchy melodies, exhilarating vocals, and joyous indie-rock instrumentation. Produced and recorded by indie legend Steve Bays (Hot Hot Heat, The Zolas, Mounties), In Waves is the culmination of the band’s wide-ranging influences—from Elvis to The Strokes, Paul Simon to The Pixies—coming together in a way that defies sonic parallels, yet remains welcomingly familiar.
