Hear Malia J’s Haunting Cover of Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit”
Hawaiian-born vocalist and songwriter, Malia J is about to become a much more common household name when the new Marvel Studios film, Black Widow, opens on July 9th. How come? Well, Malia’s incredible cover of Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” is the background for the movie’s opening sequence, which, according to a recent press release, sets, “…a tense and mysterious tone for the Scarlett Johansson-starring blockbuster.”
Capitalizing on the upcoming exposure, Malia is set to issue her debut EP, Reflections, later this summer, which will include 5 tracks – the Nirvana cover and four other originals.
Commenting on the news, Malia shares, “I’ve always written my own music, but when I started covering other artists’ music in a completely different light, people really connected to it. Now I’ve come full circle, creating my own music with the same dark, dramatic production style.”
