Calmgrove Rank Their Top 10 Food Spots in LA
Rising pop-punk trio Calmgrove count down for us ten of their favourite food spots in the vicinity of their local Los Angeles community.

As a homegrown act, it’s no surprise that there is a lot of California in Calmgrove’s sound. The Los Angeles trio just released their brand new EP, True Color. It’s a hook-heavy freight of five exciting new tracks, bringing together the best of the local pop-punk and alternative rock scenes. A lot of work and thought has been put into these songs, as some have been in the works for many years. The band feels that it is their most complete volume of work. It’s the sound they have been working towards since their formation in 2018. As it stands currently, it’s the most definitive Calmgrove statement. With catchy vocals, sharp riffs, and lots of energy, True Color is best enjoyed loud and in a jovial mood.
For Calmgrove fans, True Color has been a long time coming. Their debut EP, Light On Your End, was released in Fall 2019. It received a positive response from fans and critics, but when the pandemic arrived, everything became more complicated. Since then, they were able to issue a couple of stellar singles, including “Tossing in My Sleep” and 2022’s “Jade.” Calmgrove is an ambitious bunch, a band looking to explore a sonic depth not typical of most pop-punk acts.
We are pleased to have Calmgrove join us today to dish out for us their Top 10 favourite food spots in their vicinity within LA.
1. Palapas Tacos – www.instagram.com/palapastacosdtf
“If there’s one place that Calmgrove always makes a stop at, it is Palapas Tacos. Palapas represents California Mexican food with some of the best in the State. It is collectively our favourite in Orange County. Their Cali burrito is a must-try, but they have a whole menu of delicious items. Birria, tacos, quesadillas, burritos, whatever you crave!”
2. Warehouse Pizza
“Warehouse Pizza in La Verne is our go-to local pizza spot. It’s a local owned pizza parlor that just has a special something about it. The pizza, sandwiches, and ranch dressing is top-tier. It has that home cooking feel, always has local sports teams holding team events, and it’s cash only, so you know it’s the real deal.”
3. The Oinkster – www.theoinkster.com
“The Oinkster is a delicious diner-type restaurant in Eagle Rock. Well known for their loaded pastrami sandwiches and traditional American food. We love their chili cheese fries, burgers, and gotta love that they offer Ube shakes!”
4. San Pedro Fish Market – www.sanpedrofish.com
“A staple in California seafood, San Pedro Fish Market is one of of the freshest seafood places around. I love their jumbo shrimp platters. They cook shrimp up in cajun seasoning with potatoes, bell pepper, onion, and tomatoes. Served with a buttery garlic bread. *Chef’s kiss*”
5. Kogi Food Truck – www.kogibbq.com
“Kogi Food Truck is fire! A Korean fusion brand that started in a truck, and now has their sauces available in big retail stores. Their short ribs are amazing, in tacos, quesadillas, or burritos. But you can’t go wrong with anything they have.”
6. Claire’s Museum – www.lbma.org/claires
“One of my favourite spots for brunch is Claire’s in Long Beach. Located with ocean views, it makes for a good time on those nice sunny California days. You can’t go wrong with anything on their menu, but personally, I go for their Chilaquiles! When you go and check it out, you gotta order one of their huge bloody marys, too!”
7. Din Tai Fung – www.dintaifungusa.com/us
“From the dumplings and buns, to the sweet and sour pork baby back ribs, Din Tai Fung is a must have. The Yuzu margarita is one of my go to drinks, too!”
8. Sushi Show
“Four words. ALL YOU CAN EAT. It’s always a good time when we go there. They have pretty good happy hour specials, too. Make sure you try the fire crunch roll and the baked mussels.”
9. Dr. Grubbs – www.drgrubbsfresh.com
“If you’re into eating healthier, this is the spot for you. We’re fans of the blackened chicken and the blackened salmon. The steak is bomb, too! The sides are the best part. From the red pesto penne pasta, potatoes, and broccoli. You really can’t go wrong with anything from Dr. Grubbs. Plus, the portions are HUGE.”
10. In N Out (Grand Avenue Location) – www.in-n-out.com
“We’re from Southern California, so what did you expect from us? Number one with grilled onions, animal style fries, and a Lemon-Up is my go-to. We also want to add that the Grand Avenue location in Covina just hits harder than any other in the surrounding area. It makes for the perfect meal after a Calmgrove rehearsal.”
