Culture Club Revive the ’80s at Walmart AMP in Rogers, Arkansas [Photos]
Led by artist and ffashion maverick Boy George, Culture Club revived the 80s at Walmart AMP in Rogers, Arkansas.
Back in the ’80s, when new wave was king, you couldn’t escape the band Culture Club (CC). In 1983 they dropped their 2nd album, Colour by Numbers, and it sold more than 10 million copies. So, needless to say, they were humongous, and even if you don’t know the name, you probably know some of their smash hits such as “Do You Really Want to Hurt Me” and “Karma Chameleon.” The lead singer, Boy George, was also quite the fashion maverick, so he made a splash on fashion and culture as well.
I sadly missed this whole movement and band because I wasn’t alive yet, but as a big fan of ’80s music, I’ve always wished I could experience it somehow. Well, last night, I finally got my wish, and I got to see Culture Club in Rogers, Arkansas, at the Walmart AMP. Now since I missed CC when they were current, I wasn’t sure how big of an audience I was going to encounter. Well, their fan base is still thriving. I could be wrong, but I think there were a couple of thousand people there. It was also kind of like going back in time because the ’80s fashions were out and about, and I loved every single second of it.
Now for the band, they killed it. Boy George has been around for quite some time, but he had more energy than some of the younger performers out there today. He also sounded fantastic, and I could tell he still works on his craft. The backing band was also great too, and everyone on stage killed it in their role. They played all of the hits and even covered Rolling Stones’ “Sympathy for the Devil” as part of their encore.
The only thing I wish there were more visuals, like an LED screen or Pyro. Nevertheless, it was a really great time. If you’re a fan of the ’80s and you’re sad you missed your chance to see Culture Club and experience new wave when it happened then this is your chance. You have to check them out if they come to a town near you. You definitely won’t wanna miss it.
