Take a Swig of Seafoam Green’s “Yesterday’s Wine” Music Video Premiere
One part traditional rock, one part Americana, and all parts trippy and nostalgic, Seafoam Green premiere the music video for their song “Yesterday’s Wine” (Rekognition Sound).
If you want to distinguish yourself and try something new, well, you better shake things up. That’s just what Seafoam Green did with their new EP Yesterday’s Wine. Today marks the premiere of the music video for the title track, a song that is one part traditional rock, one part Americana, and all parts trippy and nostalgic.
Filled with big guitars and saturated in lush harmonies, it’s a bit of a change for the duo, but it stays true to the classic spirit of rock n’ roll, which they grew up idolizing. The EP is set for release on April 14th via Rekognition Sound, and the title track was inspired by an unexpected but inspiring psychedelic experience.
Discussing the song and its origins, lead singer and guitarist Dave O’Grady says:
“I wrote ‘Yesterday’s Wine’ after a wild weekend with some friends of mine who like to infuse the ‘devils lettus’ with anything they can. On this occasion they had made their own wine which was infused with some home grown shrubbery. An unexpected trip that was filled with love, light and internal reflection (as the lyrics might suggest). Not something that I would want to make a habit of, BUT that time was just what I needed.”
Through two albums, O’Grady and his cohort Mureann McDermott Long have perfected a diversified sound that might be generally referred to as Americana but is so much more than that. It’s blues, gospel, and folk, but it’s also rock n’ roll in its truest, most vintage sense.
Last summer, O’Grady and McDermott made their way to a small surfing town called Saunton in North Devon, England, to work with their friend and producer/songwriter Sean Genockey. They brought with them a few songs that they had been working on, with the intention to record something different from what you hear on their first two albums. Based on the setting in which they were, the days were more settled and light-hearted, which really helped drive the tone of the tracks they were working on. Yesterday’s Wine is something of a timestamp or a midpoint between Seafoam Green’s second album and what’s to come on their eventual third record.
