DAN BROWN from THE AMITY AFFLICTION Discusses His Favourite European Venues and What He Misses Most When Touring
Ahead of their UK dates, we sat down and talked to Dan Brown from melodic metalcore chaps The Amity Affliction about his favourite places to play, what he misses about home and more.
Having released their awesome album, Misery, earlier this year, Australian melodic hardcore band The Amity Affliction are heading to Europe this month so, ahead of the visit, we chatted about all things touring Europe with Dan from the band.
Favourite thing about touring the UK & Europe?
Dan Brown: I love the European food and weather and the UK has great sightseeing. The shows and fans are awesome everywhere we go but it’s nice to have extra things to do and see.
Favourite European venue to play?
Dan Brown: Backstage München.
Had any real horror stories from touring Europe?
Dan Brown: Years ago I had an encounter with the European version of poison ivy. My hands and face swelled up to a level where I was pretty much unrecognisable.
Is there anywhere in Europe you haven’t played yet that you would like to play?
Dan Brown: Somewhere in Croatia, preferably the coast. I’ve never been and I’ve heard it’s really nice.
Do you get chance to do any sight-seeing while you’re in Europe?
Dan Brown: Yeah definitely, It’s a super big part of what makes touring so good. Free holidays (laughs)!
Where has been the craziest European show you’ve played?
Dan Brown: Rock Im Park was amazing. So many people and so many amazing huge bands. It’s great to have other bands to watch that you’ve wanted to see for years.
You’ve played a few UK and European festivals, how different are they to American Festivals like Warped?
Dan Brown: Not very different, I dare say European festivals are the most organised. They really take care of artists and it’s nice to feel comfortable in a new environment.
What essential items do you bring with you when you tour in Europe?
Dan Brown: Apart from the obvious things like guitars etc. I never leave for tour without my MacBook Pro with Protools. We’re away from home a lot of the time so writing on tour is a must.
What do you miss most about home?
Dan Brown: My wife, my son, and my dog.
Who is the most disgusting member of the band to be on the road with?
Dan Brown: No one in the band anymore (laughs), we kicked out the gross ones!
Any quick message for fans who are coming to see you out in the UK next month?
Dan Brown: We’re playing heaps of new songs from our new album Misery. So if you’re into the album you’ll be very satisfied. That being said we’ll always play all of our old hits too. We’re excited to get there and share the experience with everyone!
