blink-182 are currently in the midst of a massive tour across North America in support of their new record, California. We caught up with them in Bangor, ME to see them play before more than 8,000 fans. I was skeptical of how this performance would compare to a previous one I’d seen given that this was the first time I’d hear them play with new member Matt Skiba, and without founding guitarist/vocalist Tom DeLonge. I was pleased to find that even on the old material, Skiba sounds great.
This was most apparent when the band played “I Miss You” and “All The Small Things.” It was great to see the onstage chemistry between bassist/vocalist Mark Hoppus and Skiba, both of whom were visibly having a blast the entire time. Their set included new tracks “Bored To Death,” “San Diego,” “Built This Pool,” “Los Angeles,” and more, but was predominantly comprised of older material, including highlights “Carousel,” “Reckless Abandon,” and “Happy Holidays, You Bastard.” The band closed with a four-song encore that ended with fan-favorite “Dammit,” ending the night on a high note. If you haven’t had the chance to catch this tour yet, you’ve still got until early October, check out the remaining stops on the tour below!
