Album Review
Leatherwolf – “Unchained Live”
This disc caught me completely off guard as I was not aware that Leatherwolf was still around, let alone preparing to release a new, live album. I was a fan of the band back in the day and so it was with great eagerness that I sat down to listen to Unchained Live.
This disc caught me completely off guard as I was not aware that Leatherwolf was still around, let alone preparing to release a new, live album. I was a fan of the band back in the day and so it was with great eagerness that I sat down to listen to Unchained Live.
The opening moments of the first song brought back a flood of memories of a time when there weren’t a million different sub-genres under the heavy metal moniker; there was just metal and Leatherwolf was the embodiment of the scene. The melodic dual guitar attacks, clean classic metal vocals, and ripping solos are things that I think are missing from today’s scene. Yes I like the heavy stuff as much as anyone else, but this to me is where it all began; after all this kind of music is why I got into metal in the first place.
I am not a very big fan of live records because I don’t feel the energy from the stage can be successfully captured in digital form and listened to on ear buds; I feel something gets lost in translation. There are a few exceptions to this rule; however, and honestly I think Unchained Live is one of them. There is not much more to say about this disc other than Unchained Live is 45 minutes of high-energy classic metal that is sure to please bangers everywhere.
