Album Review
HyperDump – “Rational Pain”
I think I said “wow” about a dozen times while listening to HyperDump’s debut album Rational Pain. For a disc this good, I am utterly shocked that it hasn’t been talked about more by the metal community. The band has an interesting sound which is described in their bio as a cross between Faith No More and Strapping Young Lad – a pretty spot on description if you ask me. Vocalist WS sounds like a French, The Real Thing era Mike Patton, while the rest of the group pull off so many different style changes that it makes for an interesting listen.

One of the problems with bands who try to ape SYL’s and/or FNM’s style is that they tend to forget they’re writing songs for their “own audience” and start making a super-hybrid sound that just sounds like shit. Hyperdump however, don’t forget at all that they’re playing their music for an audience and write some damn hooky stuff. Check the band out before the rest of the metal community finally catches on.
