Album Review
Foxboro Hot Tubs
Stop Drop and Roll!!! (05.20.2008)
Foxboro Hot Tubs have turned out a high energy, gloriously summery album: the kind of music that begs to be played with the windows down and at full volume. Hand-clapping, synthesizers, fuzzy guitar riffs, and hilariously awkward lyrics such as: “is it passion or your red tide” infiltrate the album, rendering it compulsively listenable.
The second song, “Mother Mary” is shockingly good – a riotous mixture of rock and roll that has great live potential and begs to be danced to. In fact, most of the album begs to be played live – if Foxboro can keep up the energy in their live show as they do on the album, there wouldn’t be space to breathe on the dancefloor.
By the seventh track, the songs have started to blend into each other. Good though the music is, there is very little variety on the disc, and this type of music is certainly nothing new. That being said, Foxboro Hot Tubs does a decent enough replication of the kind of high energy, danceable, fun music recently re-invigorated by bands like the Hives that lends itself so well to a live show.
