Album Review

The Killers

Sam’s Town (2006)

I have to be honest with this review, it took me a million listens to find the hook in “When You Were Young,” it’s catchy, bit wop. Sure I can put on my record label hat and say, yep this is the first single, but I didn’t enjoy it as much as everyone else. Killer’s fans might think otherwise, sure they have their loyal fan base, and whatever they put out, will be the best. Nevertheless, I still think their first album Hot Fuss was a bit better. I’m not a fan, but when you hear a song on the radio over and over again, it kind of drills inside of you.

Not a fan of the voice altering effects Mr. Flowers uses, which leads me to say, what makes him any different than a Britney Spears? The voice pales in comparison to the lyrics and this is an old trick which doesn’t seem to work with this music.

The album is pretty polished; their second time around sprung some new twists. It may have just surpassed, in the slightest the sophomore slump, but I haven’t heard any solid singles off the record besides their first single, which leads me to believe there aren’t any, or that I have to listen to the album 1000 more times.

I feel really weird when doing reviews, I don’t ever intend on hurting people’s feelings and what not, but I’m just not feeling this album. I suggest you either take a listen for yourself off the net, or buy this baby used. I gave this album a shot, and so can you.

I’d rather read about the feud between this band and other bands, and was taught, if you have nothing good to say, don’t say anything at all. Actually that sounds really bad, scratch that. Much love and respect for musicians everywhere.
