Texas @ Barbican Theatre (York, UK) on September 22, 2017 [Photos & Show Review]
After a 30+ year career, Scottish rockers Texas are still pulling in the crowds as we discovered when we caught their latest tour as it rolled into York…
Glaswegian rockers Texas are in town and the York Barbican is packed to the rafters by the time the band hit the stage on the next stop of their current twenty-one date UK tour. The tour sees the band support their 2017 album Jump On Board and, judging by the way the band smash into massive pop-rock opener “Halo”, Sharleen Spiteri and her bandmates are having the time of their lives despite being struck down by the dreaded lurgy while on the road.
By the time the band are kicking into “Let’s Work It Out”, Spiteri has encouraged the audience out of their seats and up onto their feet with more than a few fans working their way to the front of the stage after Spiteri explains “we’re going to have some fun tonight so those seats will be no fuckin’ use to you!” In fact, aside from a set list that sees the band pulling together a career-spanning collection, Spiteri’s banter and connection with her bandmates is a joy to watch and explains why they’re still pulling in crowds like this across the UK after thirty+ years.
During one break in the set, Spiteri jokes “this party is just getting started…” and, as the York Barbican rocks to the sounds of “The Thrill Has Gone” and “The Conversation”, it’s obvious that both band and fans are enjoying it as much now so expect this particular party to go on and on and on…
