Alaskan Duo dreamcat Goes Behind-the-Scenes of Their Single “Nostalgia”
Alaskan duo dreamcat join us for an exclusive interview, offering a behind-the-scenes look at their new single, “Nostalgia.”
Rising indie-pop duo dreamcat pulls audiences back to memory lane with their new single “Nostalgia.” Comprised of Em Glaves and Colton Ciufo, dreamcat created their new song with producer James Glaves – rendering a sound that blends the essence of a summer anthem from the ’80s with a modern pop song and blending the familiarity of the past with the excitement of the present. The track transports listeners to a realm of cherished memories and wistful yearning.
With each verse of “Nostalgia,” listeners are transported to carefree summer days, riding bikes to the video store and gazing up at the pink sky. The repetition of “I don’t wanna let go of nostalgia” echoes the sentiment of holding onto cherished moments, even as time passes. The Alaskan duo were eager to sit down and share a bit more behind the scenes of their creative process in a new interview, exclusively with V13.
Which act would you want to tour with?
Colton: “Automatic, Neil Frances. They are both amazing, cool bands we look up to and our heavily influenced by.”
Who would you be most amazed to see front row at one of your shows?
“Any of the Muppets. Especially Kermit or Gonzo.”
When you write do you do so with the live setting in mind or do you write a song just for the song’s sake?
“Both. Our goal is to make it hard for people not to dance. We adapt our songs for live settings with this in mind.”
Is there anywhere you would like to go that you have not been?
“UK, we want to tour Europe someday, also, anywhere warm and sunny.”
Do you use the same gear when recording as you do when playing live? If yes, what and why? If no, why not?
“For recording, we have a MIDI keyboard and our favorite software instruments/synths/samples/loops. For live I use hardware synths (Korg Prologue) and a loop station in order to keep it simple and direct. Em plays electric bass with a couple pedals over synth bass parts.”
Who are your biggest influences?
Colton: “Sonny and the Sunsets, David Lynch, The Magnetic Fields”
Em: “Kim Deal, Kim Gordon, Karen O, Talking Heads, The Clash”
Both: “2000’s Indie. The Beatles.”
For those not familiar with your band, can you tell us a little bit about yourselves?
“We both grew up on the same road in Soldotna, Alaska and took lessons with the same music instructor but never met until we were in a band together called Champions of Breakfast when we were older. Em is also the bassist in the rock band V0!D.”
How would you describe your own music?
“Simple, fun, imaginative. Like Kermit the Frog riding a jet-ski.”
