City and Colour Deliver an Emotional Night at Vancouver’s Rogers Arena [Photos]
City and Colour stopped by Vancouver’s Rogers Arena on their Canadian tour, with support from Nathaniel Rateliff and Ruby Waters.
The night of February 8th was an emotional one at the Rogers Arena, Vancouver, BC. The Canadian band City and Colour made the second stop in British Columbia (the first being in Vicotria 2 nights prior) on their Canadian tour.
Touring with City and Colour is the 2023 Juno Award-nominated singer Ruby Waters, a young artist making waves in the music scene. Her delivery and harmonic vocals shined when she performed “Open Arms” from her EP Heather. For the middle act, they have the Missouri native Nathaniel Rateliff and his band, the Night Sweats, who made the crowd move their feet with songs like “I’m on Your Side,” “You Worry Me,” and “S.O.B.”
“Vancouver, Let’s Get Emotional!” were the opening lines from Dallas Green, also known as City and Colour, to his Vancouver fans. Green’s last album, called The Love Still Held Me, came at a time of grief after the loss of a family member and a friend, and the songs reflect his feelings at the moment.
Green started his set with the song “Meant to Be” from his last album, continued with a combination of his greatest hits from the last album and older projects, taking his fans back to his first album, Sometimes, from 2005 with the song “Hello, I’m in Delaware.” Before starting to sing “We Found Each Other In the Dark,” the 6th song of the set, he said that the song is about being kinder to each other and asking the crowd to sing along. While performing the song, visuals from the back displays made the stage look like the front of a church.
The last song of the set was “Bow Down to Love.” The full set consisted of 14 songs, plus 3 for the encore. The environment in the Rogers Arena was exactly as Green said at the start of his show: emotional but great.
