Jinjer (w/ Monuments) Levels Edmonton’s Midway Music Hall with Brutality & Grace [Photos]
Edmonton’s metal community braced themselves for an unforgettable night of headbanging and mind-blowing performances as Jinjer and Monuments stormed Midway Music Hall.
Edmonton’s metal community braced themselves for an unforgettable night of headbanging and mind-blowing performances as Ukraine’s very own powerhouse, Jinjer, delivered their highly anticipated North American tour to Edmonton’s Midway Music Hall on Thursday night. The incredible Monuments, joining them on this epic journey, promised a night filled with pure metal and progressive vibes. Known for their explosive live shows, Jinjer has gained a reputation as one of the most exciting and dynamic bands in the metal genre. With a sound that combines elements of progressive groove and even touches of djent, Jinjer has carved a niche for themselves as true innovators in the industry, and they delivered a performance that served exactly that to their Edmonton audience.
Opening up the sold-out night for Jinjer, Monuments brought their own brand of technicality and intensity to Midway. With their intricate guitar work, complex rhythmic patterns, and hauntingly beautiful melodies, Monuments left an indelible mark on the night. Their ability to seamlessly fuse elements of metal, djent, and progressive rock set them apart from the pack, ensuring an unforgettable performance that had Edmonton screaming for more.
Jinjer, known for their unique blend of heavy riffs, intricate melodies, and powerful vocals, has been making waves in the metal scene since their formation in 2009. With their fearless approach to music and thought-provoking lyrics, they have garnered a dedicated following of fans who appreciate their raw talent and unapologetic style. The band began their performance by slamming into “Perennial” and flowing into “Ape,” kicking the show into high gear.
Led by the femme fatale vocalist Tatiana Shmayluk, Jinjer captivated their Edmonton audience with her incredible range, mesmerizing stage presence, and the ability to seamlessly transition between brutal growls and hauntingly beautiful clean vocals. With an exceptional delivery of the band’s hit tune “Pisces,” she effortlessly commanded Jinjer’s Edmonton crowd with her powerful and emotionally charged performance.
Ending their blazing performance on a peak, the Ukranian metallers boomed into “Sit, Stay, Roll Over,” which enticed Edmonton to sing and scream along to every word of this notoriously aggressive song. Although a two-band-bill is few and far between on tours these days, needless to say, Edmonton truly couldn’t get enough of what both Monuments and Jinjer had to offer. With cheerful woos and booyahs echoing through the crowd, it would be a shock to see either of these extremely talented acts perform in Alberta’s capital without a sold-out audience once again.
