Tia Penny Promotes Positivity with the Premiere of Her “Goodbye” Music Video
Tia Penny sheds light on both mental health awareness and suicide prevention with the premiere of her new music video for “Goodbye.”
With various National Suicide Prevention Days, Weeks, and Months coming up around the globe in September, it’s important that musicians such as Tia Penny are bringing awareness to these causes. The gifted young artist today debuts her new single “Goodbye,” a serious statement on suicide awareness and the crucial importance of speaking out and seeking help when it’s needed.
It’s a strong stance to be taken by a 15-year-old singer-songwriter who is just finding her own footing as both an artist and an individual. There’s a certain fearlessness about Tia, and that’s reflected within this song and her maturity to take on serious topics and issues, which is a hard thing to do at any age.
Discussing the song and its context, Tia offers:
“Following the release of my positive, upbeat song joyride, goodbye is a dramatic shift to a reflection of fear. One of my close friends was struggling for months and I grew concerned for their safety. This concern was exacerbated by a message from that friend detailed with suicidal threats and the word ‘goodbye.’ I am 15-years-old, and in this moment of panic, I decided to tell adults about my worries. The friend ultimately ended up ok, but that experience left me with memories of how I felt in the moment.
“I wrote the song ‘Goodbye’ to process my thoughts, never intending to share it with others. I later realized that this song could have a positive impact on such a negative topic. I am so grateful to have been able to partner with teenlifeline.org, and I am so happy to share my story with the world, and hopefully help anyone in a similar situation.”
Details of Tia’s partnership with Teen Lifeline can be found at the end of the “Goodbye” music video, and she will be performing at the organization’s gala in October. This is only her second proper single, the follow-up to her debut “Joyride,” released in the springtime. Originally from Phoenix, she recorded “Goodbye” in Brooklyn with record producer Vanessa Silberman who signed Tia to her A Diamond Heart Production / Poppy Records label.
Comparable to Lizzie McAlpine, Ingrid Michaelson, Elliot Smith, and Phoebe Bridgers, Tia is becoming known for her inspiring lyrics and impressive abilities on the guitar, which she is currently studying at a Phoenix performing arts school. She began writing songs at the age of 6, and by 9 years old, she was performing locally. All that early practice and experience is starting to pay dividends, as Tia is now really coming into her own as an artist and individual.
