City and Colour @ Queen Elizabeth Theatre (Vancouver, BC) on November 12, 2021 [Photos & Show Review]
Danica Bansie hit Vancouver, BC’s Queen Elizabeth Theatre to cover City and Colour’s recent show. Dallas Green has got to be one of the most reliable performers in Canadian rock.
Recently, City and Colour – aka Dallas Green – kicked off the Canadian leg of his tour in Vancouver. Amidst a classic Vancouver rainy season welcome, the Queen Elizabeth Theatre became a cozy respite from the wet, gloom, and looming seasonal affective disorder. In true City and Colour form, Dallas performed a stripped-down set, relying heavily on the music, and not at all on theatrics or fancy lighting.
His most recent album, A Pill for Loneliness was released over two years ago. A fact that would not have been known by looking into the crowded audience of singing and swaying, happy-to-be-there, concert-goers; their satisfied faces displaying the look of people who were experiencing music for the first time. In many ways, it felt as such.
This pandemic has caused so much turmoil, but a positive result was clear to see on the evening of November 12th. What started as a voice in the crowd yelling “I LOVE YOU DALLAS” turned into an “I LOVE YOU MORE,” “[…] MOST,” to “I LOVE YOU ALL!” The level of love, balanced out by Dallas’ signature folk-rock, and experimentation in shoegazey guitars mixed with abundant synth, while also being undoubtedly bluesy made for an ensuring safe space in live music, most coveted as of late.
Dallas Green has got to be one of the most reliable performers in Canadian rock. It’s great to see him back in his element, on stage, bringing an entire city together through his brand of rock music.
