Cannibal Corpse: “KILLING You Vigorously with Their Songs”
Gore, death, torture, cannibalism, zombies. These are some of the more predominant lyrical themes used by the most BRUTAL band in the world. American death metal group Cannibal Corpse tackles these dissonant topics with a certain level of sophistication that renders them both simultaneously disgusting and acceptable. Originally from Buffalo, New York and formed in 1988, the group would eventually relocate south to sunny Tampa, Florida.
The Skinny: Gore, death, torture, cannibalism, zombies. It is there that the band resides and has come to write some of the most deadly music known to man.
Over and illustrious 20 year spanning career, Cannibal Corpse has managed to produce an astounding 11 full lengths records, 2 EPs, 1 live album, 3 VHS/DVDs and 1 Box Set. These releases date back to their full-length debut album, Eaten Back to Life, which was released in August of 1990 through Metal Blade Records; a label that signed them after hearing only their first demo. With all of this material under their belts one would think they’d be slowing down, but for Cannibal Corpse there seems to be no end in sight.
Let it be known that Cannibal Corpse not only releases a ton of great music, but also delivers an epically-chaotic live performance. When the band plays, it feels as if the venue itself is a hell from which there is no escape. The temperature rises, fans go crazy and the band fucks our ears with a knife (yes, this brutal line is a reference to one of their songs). Playing fan favorites such as “I Cum Blood”, “Stripped, Raped and Strangled” and “Make Them Suffer” this band always has people on their toes wanting more than they can even offer in a single night. They make us suffer!
Being the top selling death metal band in history (1.5 million albums an counting), Cannibal Corpse have paved the way for bands numerous bands including: The Black Dahlia Murder, The Red Chord, Hate Eternal, Cattle Decapitation and Job For A Cowboy, aiding them all in being able to break out within the metal community. Metal Blade Records have stuck with Cannibal Corpse since the beginning and are still releasing their music to this day. Horns up to the band and to the label for their last partnership. If by now you haven’t checked out this band, then go to your nearest store and pick up an album… or take “Five Nails Through The Neck!”
