Mipso Album ‘Book of Fools’ Highlights the Indie-Americana Quartet’s Musical Journey
Americana folk act Mipso recently made a special appearance as guests on The Barn podcast in celebration of their ‘Book of Fools’ album.
North Carolina’s indie-Americana folk quartet, Mipso, has released their earnest and propulsive sixth studio album, Book of Fools. The album, also available on vinyl, showcases the band’s mature and confident sound.
Book of Fools, Mipso’s sixth studio album, reveals a more relaxed and confident side of the band. The album’s ten cohesive tracks blend driving rhythms with thoughtful lyricism, bringing Mipso back to their musical roots, yet somehow also further away. The group’s close-knit connection and profound understanding of each other shine through in the music. It is reflective of their years of playing together and their friendship.
Mipso also presents “Radio Hell,” a pop song that delves into the complexities of the industry they are in. It expresses both love and frustration with the state of the music industry. The track features fuzzy synths and electric guitars, taking Mipso’s sound to new and different heights.
Mipso’s previously shared tracks, including “Broken Heart / Open Heart,” “The Numbers,” and “Carolina Rolling By,” have garnered significant attention. “Carolina Rolling By” earned the band a prominent spot on Spotify’s Roots Rising playlist. “The Numbers” is a rhythmic critique of a market-obsessed culture, drawing inspiration from the world of economics.
“Broken Heart / Open Heart” is a poignant reflection on the transformation of a broken heart into an open one. The track explores the universal experience of loss and recovery, turning pain into a gift. Something many of us know all too well.
Mipso, formed in 2012, has evolved their sound over the years, blending their musical backgrounds and harmonies to create a unique sound influenced by North Carolina’s musical traditions and beyond. The band has earned recognition and popularity with each album, showcasing their growth and versatility.
As they continue their North American tour in 2023, Mipso is determined to strengthen their sound and the bond between its members, driven by their passion for making music together. The tour includes dates across the United States and Canada, giving fans the opportunity to experience Mipso’s new music and timeless favorites live.
They were also featured on the latest episode of the Midwest Mixtape Podcast, which can be heard here or anywhere you get your podcasts.
