London-based rock band The Lightness Of Being formed in 2010 and cite influences panning from Deftones, Queens of the Stoneage and Mastodon through to At the Drive-In. The quartet release their new EP, Diversions, through all stores on Friday, June 1st and, ahead of the release, gave us the lowdown on each track.

01. Bottomfeeder
– “Bottomfeeder” starts with a “we mean business” syncopated low riff, locking in with vocals, before the full band kicks in with a full-blast chorus. It builds into an explosive solo and keeps a dark, disquieting tone throughout. The video matches the tone – keeping us on edge! “Everybody rests easy…”

02. Refute
– Next, we have “Refute” which shoots out of the blocks with a driving rhythm, great energy and catchy vocals. A faster, straighter groove, with tasty guitar bursts and a sing-along chorus (well almost…). The most upbeat track on the EP, but there’s still danger lurking within!

03. Cave
– Lastly, “Cave” takes down the tempo but loses none of the intensity…quite the opposite. Atmosphere builds as the band follows a strong vocal melody, before taking it up several gears into the outro. With rich delay and fine-tuned effects throughout repeat listens are rewarded!
