WSTR – “Skrwd” [Album Review]

Marrying pop ethics with proper gritty punk rock, Wstr have produced a really honest record which you’ll enjoy listening to again and again and again…

There are lots of bands coming out of the woodwork now who walk a similar path to pop-punk faves Neck Deep. Wstr are another one of those gritty pop-punk bands who, for all the infectious melodies and big bouncy guitars, have an honest, down-to-earth, real life twist to their songs and, you know, sure, we all love a good singalong but when you can actually relate to the songs like you can to songs like “Fair Weather” then the whole thing becomes more palatable.

Skrwd is a six-song affair that may only clock in at just under eighteen minutes but the infectious charm of songs like “Brainsick” and the fucking brilliant “Fairweather” make it a pleasure to listen to..again and again… and again! Wstr are a pop-punk band who embrace the pop ethic with really easy to catch onto hooks but marry it with proper, gritty punk rock to create a really good honest record. Sure there is a tip of the cap to bands like New Found Glory but, at the end of the day, Skrwd has that British weather-worn grit to it that makes it all that more satisfying to listen to.
