Sylar – “To Whom It May Concern” [Album Review]
Wow! To Whom It May Concern, the new record from the New York-based metal act Sylar, is not at all what I was expecting. I had a bit of a preconceived notion that this was going to be yet another generic, cookie cutter screamo band, but man I could not have been more wrong.
Wow! To Whom It May Concern, the new record from the New York-based metal act Sylar, is not at all what I was expecting. I had a bit of a preconceived notion that this was going to be yet another generic, cookie cutter screamo band, but man I could not have been more wrong.
After a brief intro, Sylar launch into an unbelievable and refreshing electronic-influenced, metallic hardcore onslaught that just blew my mind. Both raw, anger-laced hardcore and clean melodic vocals soar over top of seriously down tuned guitars riffs and chugging rhythms which, in and of itself, is pretty awesome. The band; however, takes things to the next level by adding in an electronic vibe that is different from most everything out there, and honestly, is really good.
Oh, and did I mention the breakdowns? There are absolutely massive breakdowns guaranteed to get the pit swirling into a bloody frenzy. To Whom It May Concern is quite a musical adventure that is sure to please fans of metal, hardcore, and generally loud, abrasive, and beast mode-inducing music.
