True North (Century Media) is a far different beast to its predecessor, Winter Thrice; a fresh recollection of Borknagar’s early days, coming across as a rawer, simpler and more authentic reinterpretation of nature-themed Norse blackened folk metal that nevertheless stays true to the band’s signature sound.
Faroe Island Viking metal legends, Týr came from the icy north to Joe’s Grotto in Phoenix, AZ. They brought along Aeternam, Ghost Ship Octavius and Orphaned Land for a metal-filled evening.
Valkyrja, the 7th full-length album from the Faroe Islands natives Týr, will be released on September 17th in North America, and September 13th/16th in Europe/UK. Týr once again collaborated with Jacob Hansen at Hansen Studios in Ribe, Denmark. Along with Hansen, the band recruited acclaimed drummer George Kollias to act as studio drummer and Leaves’ Eyes vocalist Liv Kristine joined vocalist/guitarist Heri Joensen for a vocal duet on “The Lay of Our Love.” The opening track to the album, “Blood of Heroes,” is streaming now just below.
Featuring interviews with frontman Heri Joensen of Týr, and bassist Pär Sundström and guitarist Chris Rörland of Sabaton, plus he’s joined for the program by members of Crimson Shadows.
