The Images Festival is proud to begin 2012 with a special screening of ‘Sleeping Nights Awake’, a documentary on Sonic Youth shot by high school students. The screening takes place on Wednesday, February 29th at The Garrison, 1197 Dundas Street West (19+, licensed) and will be followed by a live performance by Sonic Youth tribute band Shaking Hell – a Toronto indie super-group featuring members of Republic Of Safety, Neck and Mean Red Spiders formed especially for this evening – playing a set of SY’s hits. Advance tickets are $10 and are available at Soundscapes at 572 College Street and at Rotate This at 801 Queen Street West.

Grammy-winner Everlast has returned to the airwaves in a big way with, “I Get By” the first single from the upcoming ‘Songs Of The Ungrateful Living,’ out October 18th. “I Get By,” an anthem for these troubled times is already making major in-roads at radio, breaking the top forty at both the BDS and Mediabase Alternative charts. Metalcore outfit Sleeping Giant are set to release their first album since joining ANGR with ‘Kingdom Days In An Evil Age’ (July 12th). In preparation for the album’s release, the band has now teamed up with Gun Shy Assassin for a second single premiere, “Eyes Wide Open”, which features Frankie Palmeri (Emmure) on guest vocals. ‘Leaves/Scars’, the third album by the instrumental rock band Beware Of Safety, we can hear them becoming one of the latter bands: taking high risks and bearing astonishingly high rewards. After touring on ‘Dogs’ in 2009, the band decided to begin writing the next record and for the first time in the band’s six year history, the album was to be written completely from scratch.
