I recently had a chance to chat with Henrik Klingenberg, keyboardist with the Finnish power metal act Sonata Arctica, about the band’s new project, a re-recording of their album Ecliptica – Revisited. More than fifteen years later the group has revisited this release’s songs with a slightly different line-up, and a lot more experience. The result is a record which Sonata Arctica fans are not going to want to miss! Here is how the conversation with Klingenberg went.

Symphonic metal trio Sonata Arctica, Delain and Xandria all hit the stage at Stage 48 in NY on September 4th to a sold out house. Little known local group, Syntilla, opened the night as the evening was heavy with female-fronted bands. Dutch opera trained Diaane Van Giesbergen’s tall and lean presence got the night going giving way to Charlotte Wessels and Delain. But the night belonged to Finnish born Tony Kakko and Sonata Arctica who played 18 well-crafted tunes. Their tour continues in the States and heads to Russian before closing out in Finland just before the new year.

Los Angeles, CA’s Echoes Of Eternity released their label debut, The Forgotten Goddess, in 2007 on Nuclear Blast Records. The album kicks off with an acoustic intro entitled “Burning With Life” which leads right into the first (“Expressions Of Flesh”), of 9 EOE anthems. each song features heavy metal instrumentals accompanied by the mellow female vocals of Canadian-born Francine Boucher. My only major negative about The Forgotten Goddess is the lack of energy throughout the recording. This point aside, the album overall is fairly good and provides some rocking tunes.
