On May 14th, 2008, Motion City Soundtrack brought motion to our city of Toronto along with soundtracks off their most recent album titled Even If It Kills Me. Walking to the show was a drag because it was raining so hard, but once I got there the sun came out and things went smoothly. On the band’s dry bus I managed to catch up with bassist Matt Taylor and drummer Tony Thaxton. Check it out.
Rock and roll and politics just always seem to somehow mesh together and they do yet again on Filter’s latest album Anthems for the Damned. After a five year hiatus, Filter’s mastermind Richard Patrick has regrouped and put together a very solid rock and roll album that stretches towards social and political themes in a way we never knew possible of Filter in the past. In the years since Filter was a very significant player…
Their latest album titled Full Circle is a good phrase to currently describe the rock/metal band Drowning Pool. In seven years together, the group has gone through two lead singers, some very rough personal times and a record label change from a major to an indie. For most bands events such as these would in all likelihood break the group apart but not Drowning Pool. The guys have persevered and are presently…
As I Lay Dying came through Toronto on Wednesday May 14th at the Phoenix and we managed to ask lead guitarist Phil Sgrosso some deadly questions on their tour bus. The band was headlining the tour and put on a perfect show. We wouldn’t be surprised if there was a kid in the mosh pit who died that night listening to As I Lay Dying as he lay dying.
Featuring: guitarist C.J.

May 4th was both a sad and rad day in Toronto, Canada. Sad, because it marked the last time that Industrial Metal pioneers Ministry were to play our city, and rad, well because we go to see them! What was even MORE rad, was that Meshuggah was their supporting act. Being a band who loves to play in Toronto and always gets a HUGE Canadian reception, it was no surprise then that rhythm guitarist Marten Hagstrom was kind enough to take time out to chat. We talked about the tour, playing with Ministry, the facts behind their punishing new effort, obZen and recording drums in a barn.
It’s tough to believe that nearly a decade ago, Dustin Kensrue et al. began a Warped Tour-friendly punk band in sunny Orange County.
The Atlanta, Georgia quintet, Collective Soul, was (and continues to be) not only a great band, but also one of the most successful rock acts of the last fifteen years.
On October 30th, 2007, Cradle of Filth rolled through Toronto, Canada and dropped a monstrous performance at the Docks, nightclub. Needles to say, a Metal show the night before Halloween was something magical and fortunately for the fans, we got to catch up with guitarist Paul Allender prior to the show. Paul talked about the newest album Thornography, the years in the scene, and fans you would not expect to rock out!
Ever heard the term “post-grunge” used to describe your favorite band? Over the years, this term has become quite common to describe the wave of alternative rock bands that came along in the mid-1990s and the early part of the twenty-first century after the grunge craze of the early 1990s led by the likes of Nirvana, Alice In Chains and Soundgarden. Without a doubt one of the most prominent post-grunge outfits has been…
Eve To Adam have built a reputation and a strong following through constant gigging and making themselves accessible to their fans whether after a show or via their strong presence on the internet and sites such as MySpace. With the release of their debut CD Queens to Eden, Eve to Adam have set out on a mission to bring their brand of rock and roll to as many people as possible. The CD rocks with the best of them and the band…
While the name Evergreen Terrace might suddenly cause your mind to jump to thoughts of The Simpsons, it’s also the name of a current alternative rock band.
As is customary with BIG summer festivals, the Warped Tour made its appearance in Canada again this year! With a huge bill and a a long day of heavy rocking, PureGrain staff were able to meet up with Still Remains frontman T.J. Miller and find a quiet spot (onboard their shared tour bus) to talk about the tour itself, their new album The Serpent, their pending tour with Aiden, and some deep philosophical talk about… MUSIC!!!
