Saor’s new album Forgotten Paths, out now via Avantgarde Music, demonstrates how the harshness of black metal, when mixed with themes of nature and tradition alongside a heavy Gaelic influence, makes for a listen which is overall simply sublime.
I sat down for a good chat with Fredrik, Opeth’s newest member (since 2007) on the last day of the “Heritage Tour”. We talked about the latest album and its musical elements and hidden symbolism, losing Per Wiberg as a keyboardist, and the overall crazy genius that is Opeth.
The Swedish progressive masters Opeth are back with their 10th studio album, Heritage. They’ve built a career in performing lengthy, progressive death metal songs with blusey rock sections. After so many years of committing to their well-received formula the band has decided to change things up.
Opeth are gearing up to release their new album Heritage on the 21st of September. Moreover the band is also getting ready to perform at both Canada’s Heavy MTL and T.O. festivals in July. Recently I got to fire off some questions to guitarist Fredrik Åkesson and gain a bit of insight into the new album, keyboardist situation and Fredrik’s new signature guitar.
