John Gallagher, lead vocalist and bassist from the legendary metal band Raven spoke with me recently about the band’s new release, Walk Through Fire. I grew up listening to these guys and it was with great pleasure and anticipation that I received their new disc. Walk Through Fire is an album that showcases the band in top form. This is metal the way metal was meant to be played; hard, heavy and visceral.

How many bands tour the world via their own customized plane these days? Less than you can count on two hands? Well, legendary English metallers Iron Maiden did just that in 2008. Flight 666 is the film which documents the band’s “Somewhere Back In Time Tour” which totaled 50,000 miles and five continents in 45 days doing 23 shows. The means of transport for this trek was Bruce Dickinson’s very own customized Boeing 757, Ed Force One. This plane carried the band, crew and 12 tons of stage equipment while being piloted by none other than its owner and the band’s vocalist, Bruce Dickinson.

In full gear and with his remote controlled mask buzzing and whirring, PureGrainAudio asked questions pertaining to touring, their new wardrobe and more about the force that is the ‘Knot.

Who is the biggest metal band in the world right now? If you said Metallica then you better go back to the 1980s. Over the last five years, Slipknot has become one of the biggest and most popular rock bands in the entire world. The guys rose to international prominence upon the release of 2004’s Vol. 3 (The Subliminal Verses) and have managed to keep it up with their fourth studio album All Hope Is Gone released last summer. Currently the band is getting set for some Canadian tour dates before some dates in the U.S. and then a run through Europe. Recently, we were fortunate enough to catch up with Slipknot bassist Paul Gray, otherwise known as #2, to talk about what the band’s up to and the latest album. Paul is without a doubt one of the coolest and nicest musicians I’ve had the pleasure of speaking with; here’s how it went.
