On October 2nd, God Is an Automaton, the fourth metallic/digital hybrid from Swiss industrial metal/death wave artists Sybreed, will reach North American soil. The result of a six month collaboration with Rhys Fulber (Fear Factory, Paradise Lost, Conjure One) for arrangements and mixing, God is an Automaton is undoubtedly the band’s strongest achievement so far in terms or songwriting and production. The band recently posted a stream of the song “The Line of Least Resistance” – listen below.

Mantas was the late Chuck Schuliner’s pre-Death band and these are his earliest recordings; ones that would evolve into Death’s sound. As such, Death By Metal should be considered to be a historical metal document. This said, the album’s sound is incredibly muddy and as a result hard to listen to at times. While most casual listeners won’t be able to get past this, those who can will find some scorching songs. As far as historical albums go, Death By Metal should be heard by all extreme metal fans at some point, just to see how the genre evolved. Casual listeners on the other hand should avoid.
