Three Wise Monkeys is the brand new recording by Alberto Rigoni, progressive rock composer and bass player (TwinSpirits, Lady & THE BASS), who is rapidly gaining audience in the international progressive rock fusion music scene for inventive genre-crossing compositions that paint alluring soundscapes comprehensible to wide varieties of listeners, yet artistically sophisticate and individualistic enough to sustain one’s attention once gained.

Late last year I had the opportunity to speak with Jarkko Aaltonen, bass player for the Finnish folk metal act Korpiklaani, about their latest disc, Ukon Wacka, and their then current North American tour. This was the second to last show for the band on this leg of the tour and even though they had a blast on this side of the pond they were all looking forward to heading home for the holidays. Here’s how the conversation went.

Born in Montebelluna (Treviso, Italy) in 1981, bass player Alberto Rigoni in 1998 founded, together with drummer Enrico Buttol, a well-known progressive-metal cover band, Ascra, performing mainly songs by Dream Theater. In 2003 he joined the emerging band Twinspirits, led by Daniele Liverani (Genius Rock Opera, Khymera, ex-Empty Tremor).

Rob Higgins, frontman for Canadian Rock band Dearly Beloved, spoke with me recently about the band’s newest EP, They Will Take Up Serpents. This disc is a collection of songs that could easily be heard on virtually any modern rock station across the country. It is a high-energy, indie rock album that begs to be played at full volume. Here is what Higgins had to say about the band and their new EP.

Bassist Dave Benedict of the Canadian band Default spoke with me recently about the band’s newest disc, Comes And Goes. Due to some unforeseen circumstances this album took several years to release, but fans of the band can now rejoice. Comes And Goes was well worth the wait. Default is preparing to hit the road in support of the record. Here is how the conversation with Benedict went.
