We recently had the opportunity to catch up with guitarist Johan Söderberg of fantasy/Viking/Norse mythology-inspired melodic death metal band Amon Amarth. He talked about the latest album, Deceiver of the Gods, the writing process involved, being from Sweden, and more. Enjoy!
Melodic death metal heroes Amon Amarth are pleased to unveil the details of their ninth studio album. Titled Deceiver of the Gods, the epic offering was recorded at Backstage Studios in Derbyshire, UK, and produced, mixed and mastered by Andy Sneap (Opeth, Megadeth, Exodus, Arch Enemy, Killswitch Engage). The cover art was, once again, completed by Tom Thiel, and depicts a mythical battle between the Norse Gods Loki and Thor. Fans will also recognize a special appearance on this album with Messiah Marcolin (Candlemass) providing guest vocals for eighth song, “Hel.” Deceiver of the Gods will be released in North America via Metal Blade Records June 25th, in Europe June 21st/24th and Japan on June 26th.
Starting today, fans can check out the new Amon Amarth music video for the song “Destroyer Of The Universe” off the band’s latest release, ‘Surtur Rising’. The live video, which is premiering below , was shot on the band’s May 6th stop in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the Theatre Of Living Arts by director David Brodsky of MyGoodEye (The Black Dahlia Murder, The Devin Townsend Project, Suicide Silence, Municipal Waste, Whitechapel, etc).
