Guitarist/vocalist Tim Jones of the Dallas based hard rock outfit Feel, Never Real, spoke with me recently about the bands newest release, VS. The Sea Of Disease. The band successfully melds tons of melody with a hard rock edge resulting in what I feel is a very solid disc. Here is what Jones had to say about the band, the new disc and the unusual band name.
In 2010 Derek Vincent Smith waited until the end of the year to release a remix EP, but this year he’s doing things different and rolling them out as they come. His newest creation is a heavy and beautiful track that remixes and samples Radiohead’s “Everything In Its Right Place,” Nirvana’s “All Apologies” and Nine Inch Nails’ “Closer.”

As a huge fan of the ’80’s “Big Hair” bands I’m very familiar with the work of Warrant, a band that was pretty much a staple on the scene. I loved their first release Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich, but after that, for me they just never got my blood pumping; the scene was over-saturated with dime a dozen bands and their subsequent releases, even though they were hugely successful, did nothing for me.

Meanwhile, NPR’s Song of the Day hails the band’s previous single, saying “‘Turn Off This Song’ serves as a catchy call to arms, not to mention one of the best and most honest slices of pop music around.”

Being from a little town in Idaho, going to a big festival-type concert is a big deal. The aptly named Mayhem Festival made a stop in Nampa (near Boise) this week, and with a line-up that includes Chimaira, Hatebreed, Lamb of God, Korn and several other of my favorite bands, making the four-hour drive was not even a debate.
LA’s Wake Up Lucid started as a vision of singer and guitarist Ryan Baca’s deceased father. In the dream they wrote a song together, and the name of the song was “Wake Up Lucid.” Since that fateful night in 2008, Ryan and his two cousins Ian (bass) and Jamie Baca (drums) have quickly burned their name into the rock and roll…
