On April 10th, 2009, behind Ottawa, Ontario’s Babylon night club in the back of a tour van, Matt Murphy Interviewed Blake Prince, lead singer of Straight Reads The Line. They spoke about the band’s most recent album, The Author, and the rigorous writing process that went with it. They also talked about their rising popularity in a music scene with incredible talents. Straight Reads The Line blends panic and melody into their songs to create memorable tracks like “The Jig is Up” and “Pilgore”. On November 11th, 2008 Matt Murphy met up with the boys of Kathleen Turner Overdrive right before they tore up their Ottawa stop on the Unity Tour at Cafe Decuf. In the parking lot of a beer store they discussed such things as how totally trashed they got on their day off. Also, their confrontation with two police officers when they opened KTO’s bus door to recieve a facefull of smoke and to witness the glory of about 70 beer bottle pilled onto a table. Oddly enough the night of the trashing was the same night as the cop confrontation! go figure? And of course, they talked about their awsome album Marauders! Wolves! Scavengers! Party!. December 15th in a gymnasium of an elementary school in Gatineau Quebec! This is part Two of the Callahan interview. In this addition we talked a lot about one of Paul’s (Callahan’s drummer) best friends Chris Wynne. Who appears touring with Protest The Hero, in the “Cheese and Cracker’s” videos, which Rody Walker of Protest made and also hes in a few of Protest’s videos. Callahan is a band from Vancouver, B.C with an energetic sound and a live show to match. They have just made an online release of their first self-titled LP, produced by Julius Butty (Alexisonfire, Protest The Hero) which just kicks so much ass, and will have you coming back for more. I got the pleasure of interviewing these fine gentlemen on December 15th when they played a show in the gymnasium of an elementry school in Gatineau, Quebec. A bizarre venue, but that did not distract the buys from playing incredibly, with perfect live renditions of their songs. These guys are hilarious as well; they changed a billborad in the schools hallway to read U R my Taco I eet u! On October 17th at the Babylon Night club in Ottawa, Ontario, Karl Schubach the lead singer of Misery Signals and I got together to chill and talk about their most recent album Controller, their video for “A Certain Death”, their collaboration with Fall out Boy and much more. This band has been around for years building their way up through the hardcore underground scene through relentless touring and releasing amazing albums that has defined their melodic hardcore contrast. Misery signals actually ran into a bit of trouble getting to the Ottawa show. Their trailer broke down and they had to spend $4000 to buy a new one so thy could make the show and my interview. On October 17th at Zaphod’s Beeblebrox club in Ottawa, Ontario, I got to chill with Justin Dube (vocals, guitar) and Casey Shea (guitar, vocals) of the rock band Everlea. Their combination of catchy melody and indie rock is something not to be missed. These guys are super chill, so much in fact that when I asked to do an interview on the spot, they were down.
