Dan Mangan was in my opinion, the highlight of Folkfest this year. He played a great number of hits which the audience sang along to. In addition, he ended the night with a bang by jumping into the crowd and getting all the fans who had dressed up as robots to come on stage and become part of his performance during his single, “Robots”. I look forward to seeing Dan perform again!

While Yukon Blonde performed at Ottawa’s 2011 Bluesfest, they returned to do something a little different this year, being performing at Ottawa’s 2012 Folk Fest! No matter where they play, they always draw a huge crowd and give a stellar performance (they are even returning once more this year to perform alongside The Sheepdogs as part of a massive Canadian tour in November). One thing is clear – Ottawa loves Yukon Blonde!

This was by no means my first time seeing Toronto’s own Cancer Bats (this was probably my 4th or 5th time), but as usual, they did not disappoint. Lead by vocalist Liam Cormier, they put on a show full of energy and really got the crowd going! They were the last band I got the opportunity to photograph at Heavy MTL and they will always be one of my favourite bands to shoot.
