Long before the show started, fans were lining up outside the Great Canadian Toronto Theatre, eager to see the South Korean indie band Wave to Earth. As the doors opened, crowds of fans slowly piled into the venue, rows of merch lines stretched to the entrance, and seats filled up. The stage was hazy with smoke, creating a warm, intimate atmosphere as the audience anticipated the opener, Jiwoo, and Wave to Earth’s presence.

Suddenly, the lights go out. Fans scream and cheer excitedly. With blue and green lighting setting the scene, the spotlight centers on Jiwoo in his chair as he sings. His smooth vocals, backed by mellow instrumentals and his guitar, provided a euphoric mood. Jiwoo warmed up the crowd, providing a fitting introduction to Wave to Earth’s show.

As Wave to Earth came on, the venue erupted in cheers and a sea of phones came into view as the overjoyed crowd documented their arrival. The minimalist stage was styled to look like a home studio set in Toronto. With couches, desk lamps, and a window view of the CN Tower, it provided a comforting vibe that matched the tone of their music. Throughout the set, lead vocalist Daniel Kim’s soft but expressive lyrics remained the focal point of the performance. Fan favourites such as “seasons,” “bad,” and others transformed the venue into a massive, unforgettable sing-along.

Originally founded in 2019, Wave to Earth was just an idea that Daniel Kim and Dong Q dreamt about in middle school, with the ambition of “showing music that makes a new wave.” Adding a new member to the band, John Cha, they debuted with their single titled “wave” in August 2019. They rose to prominence with “seasons,” released in 2020 on the album summer flows 0.02, and their 2023 album 0.1 flaws and all. Their current 2026 tour, called “the ( ) pieces tour,” covers North America as well as Asia to support their most recently released album, bad pieces.

Wave to Earth’s Toronto show felt like an emotional connection between the band and their fans, to be remembered as more than just a concert. Their ability to combine intimate storytelling through their musical talent created a memorable evening for local and visiting audience members. As the final notes rang out and the band said their closing words, they took their bow. Tonight’s show showed how Wave to Earth continues to resonate with listeners nationally.
