Ubisoft Announce Rainbow Six Tactics at Gamescom Opening Night Live
Ubisoft announce the newest addition to the Rainbow Six franchise with a tactical turn-based spinoff set to release in 2027.
Ubisoft has taken Gamescom Opening Night Live by storm, not only with the announcement of the Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake, but also by introducing a spin-off of the Rainbow Six franchise. The original game, known as one of the best tactical competitive FPS games, is now being turned into a single-player turn-based tactical game with the franchise’s newest introduction, Rainbow Six Tactics, set to release on Ubisoft+, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, GeForce Now, Blacknut, and PC through multiple storefronts. The competitive Siege scene carries on in parallel, with a full pro calendar that keeps Rainbow Six betting busy all season.
For the first time in the franchise’s history, players step into the role of Six, the commander of the Rainbow unit whose job is to lead elite teams of up to four operators through high-stakes assignments, from strategic preparation at HQ to tactical execution in the field. With careful planning, coordinated breaches, and the need to adapt as missions unfold, Rainbow Six Tactics captures the core DNA of Rainbow Six while introducing a new way to experience its iconic operators.
Ubisoft Paris developed the game, and it unfolds alongside the ongoing Rainbow Six timeline. As a new global threat pushes, Team Rainbow operates on a broader strategic scale; from Rainbow’s HQ, players assess intelligence, assign operators, upgrade their base, and make decisions that shape each mission before sending their squad into the field. Once they are prepared, turn-based encounters challenge them to combine operator abilities, reconnaissance tools, gadgets, and destructible environments to outmaneuver enemy forces.
Rainbow Six Tactics is set to release in 2027 and is available to wishlist on PC now through the Steam storefront.
